Sunday morning we woke up and the boys asked if we could go to the zoo. We haven't been to the Dallas zoo in a few months, and the weather was perfect (mid 80s and sunny), so I was up for it. Of course, we really didn't visit any animals. We spent most of our time in the Children's zoo on the play ground and in the water stream. The kids have so much fun there. Even just visiting the horses and fish and bunnies is fun for them. We did manage to visit the Elephant, the Giraffe and the Galapagos turtles.....but that was about the extent of the animals we saw......but if you look closely, I did get a shot of 2 rare cheetahs that were sitting nicely on a park bench.
One of the things we did (twice) was ride the carrousel. The boys don't like to be on the horses (or in this case, Gorillas, Emus or Giraffes). They prefer to sit in the spinning birds nest. So we are turning in circles then spinning very fast within the nest. The first time we rode was at 9:15am, on empty tummies....no biggie. The second time was at 12:30 AFTER we had eaten hot dogs for lunch. OK- I seriously thought I was going to throw up. And I really didn't feel very good for the rest of the day....I think next time Im going to stand outside of the nest.
Wedneday night we took the boys to to soccer skills class. There is a coach (Coach Matt) who runs through drills with the boys (and 10 other kids) for 45 minutes and the boys love to get out and run around there. Im so impressed with the changes I see in the boys in he few weeks that they have been playing. Jake plays with such drive- he never wants to stop. He LOVES soccer.
After soccer practice was over, we went to the restaurant here called Varsity Sports. Its a great joint! They have a free bounce house for the kids and free video games too. They have great wings and kids eat free too. How can you beat that. It will absolutely be a regular haunt from here on out.
I just love watching the boys play soccer. Its such a proud moment for a Mummy.....
So we had our first soccer game on Sunday. Only 4 of our team showed up and we had never played before- in fact, some of the kids had never seen a soccer ball before I think. Contrast that to the fact that the other team have been playing together for 1.5 years AND that they had 10 players there (ie- they had subs) and you know what kind of a game we had.
So the Blue Pandas didn't win- but they all seemed to have fun trying. Josh scored 3 goals! Unfortunately they were all on his own team....but he was SOOOOO excited about those goals. What can I say- he is a 3 year old playing on a 5 & 6 year old league- and he doesn't understand the concepts yet.
Towards the end of the game though, the boys started to settle down and really started to get it together. Jake an Laing carried the ball all the way down the field and Jake managed to score! He was so proud of himself- as was I....and all the parents cheered- even the parents from the opposing team. He said to me after : "Was I amazing Mummy?"...Im beaming!
Anyways, I got a kick out of it. looking forward to coach (ie- Johnny) having a practice for them on Tuesday and the next game on Sunday. Jake and Josh both LOVED it.
We had the parents meeting for the boys soccer team last night and apparently the only parent on the team that understands soccer is Johnny. So now Johnny is the new coach. Im actually really excited about it though- because I was so worried about Josh being too young on the team and at least Johnny understands my concerns and has the same worries- so if he feels like its dangerous, he can just pull Josh out. And also Johnny will be a great coach- he came home last night and downloaded all the rules for this age group and is going to hold practice sessions for the kids. He loves soccer and he has alot of patience with kids. I think it will be great for him to do this. Im so proud of him for stepping in and doing this.
So now they are the Blue Panda's.....Im really excited for the game on Sunday!
Jake is discovering what a joke is and how to tell one. He started with the Knock Knock jokes.....he'd say "Knock Knock"...and I'd say "Who's there".."Doggie", "Doggie who?" and he would laugh hysterically- he had no punch line. But then he started into more structured jokes...the usually went like this "Why cant people fly?" "because there are no airplanes" then he would say "Its a joke- Get it?"....We usually get about 6 or 7 of these a day now.
He actually came up with a funny one this weekend. "Why do kayaks go so slow"...."Because they aren't jet skis"...."Get it - its a joke".....I laughed really hard at that one- Jake LOVEs jet skis.
