Skating Lessons

Yesterday we took Josh and Jake to their first ever skate lesson. There were about 15 or 16 kids in the class and about 5 or 6 teachers and I was so impressed with how the boys did. For only having skated once in their lives, they did great. They started with holding onto the side boards, then progressed to walking like frankenstein and learning how to fall and get up properly and eventually they pushed themselves backwards off the boards and wiggled their way back to the red line. I was so impressed. The whole 30 minutes, you couldn't wipe the smile off their faces. There were alot of kids that weren't having as much fun, but my guys LOVED it. They are excited about going again next week. I was impressed with how fast they both learned to get up. If they fell, there was no tears...they just got up.

I know its only the first lesson and all, but I hope this is a the start of a lot of years at the hockey rink with them when they grow up.

Fun things over Thanksgiving Weekend, Part 1

We did so many things this weekend...I don't even know where to start. So Ill just dive right into the ice skating. The boys have been asking for ages to play hockey- we have told them that they first need to learn to skate to which they have always said- ok- lets do it...so this weekend, we did it. We went for a public skate at one of the indoor arenas here. Now, I can honestly say I have not been on ice skates in a good 25 years, and Johnny has only been once in his life, so we were a little nervous about taking a 3 and a 4 year old out for a spin around. But we did it anyways. When we got to the arena, Josh didn't want to do it, but we rented his skates anyways, and we made him try it. BOY was he glad he did. You couldn't wipe the smiles off of Josh or Jake's faces. They had a blast. The arena also had a snowman building contest going on, where the had an area on the ice that had snow on it and the kids could go build a snowman....the boys loved that- since the never get to play in the snow here. So now Im looking into skating lessons- since there is now way I can teach them. Here are some pics to enjoy of them skating.

You never think that these simple things can bring you so many amazing memories. This is one memory I wont soon forget- I loved seeing my kids for the first time enjoying one of the simple pleasures of the winter for any kid...even two Texans...
