Im shocked at how much my boys like hockey. On Sunday, when we were leaving the movie, we were walking back to the car and passed the ice rink on the way- which just so happened to have a bunch of hockey players on the ice and was just about to start their game. My boys stopped dead in their tracks and were so excited that there was a hockey game going on that they just happened to stumble onto. So we went back in the mall and sat down and watched 1 and a half periods or 12 year olds playing hockey. The thing that impressed me is the questions that they asked- "Why did the referee blow the whistle?" "Why is that guy sitting alone in that box?" "What is a penalty?" "The goalie has a bigger stick than the rest of the players".
Every night this week when I pick the kids up from school the first thing out of their mouths is "Can we go swimming tonight?" and the second thing out of Josh's mouth is "Can I wear my shirt?". Its so nice at this age because I just have to slap on some water wings and some lotion and head out to the pool where they play for a good hour while I sit and watch- no entertaining on my part necessary. Im so thankful for our pool! And the boys have become little fish- Im so shocked at what a 3 and a 4 year old can do! They are becoming very strong swimmers. They both put their head under water and kick and scoop and "swim" to the shore. Jake is also diving into the pool. They really are a blast to watch. It makes the evenings go so fast! Its now not uncommon for us to eat at 7pm and rush to start a bedtime routine. Im sure it will get old for them- but for now, Im loving it!
So I don't know about you, but I still have stupid memorizations rattling around in my head from Junior high and even Grade school. How come I can remember dumb poems and formulas from my childhood, but I cant remember what is on my grocery list (or even to remember to bring my grocery list with me to the store). So here is a splattering of things I remember (or more to the point, can't seem to forget):
Avec des jouets par milliers
N'oublie pas mon petit soulier.
Mais avant de partir
Il faudra bien te couvrir
Dehors tu vas avoir si froid
C'est un peu à cause de moi.
Jake's starting to earn an allowance now. Last week he and I were talking and he said he wanted to buy some football stuff like a helmet and shoes and socks (I know what you're thinking- very odd football uniform right?). So I asked him how he thought he'd pay for that and he said "I dunno". So I told him that if he wanted to do some chores around the house that Id give him an allowance. So we decided that he would make his bed every day, clean up his dishes and take his clothes to the dirty clothes hamper every day. That little stinker hasn't missed one day- he gets so excited- in fact, he can barely get out of bed before he wants to make his bed. Im really proud of him. Josh on the other hand, wants nothing to do with chores- which is fine- he's not even 3 yet.
There are so many words that Jake and Josh use that are not quite right, but that I find so endearing and I hate to correct them because its just so darn cute! When I was a kid and my baby cousin JD was 2 or 3, he would always say "Lellow" for yellow. That one always stuck with me for some reason and I always thought it was cute. Well now I have 2 boys that call the color yellow "Lellow". Here are a few more of my favorites:
Josh:
STUNK = Skunk
PORCYPINE = Porcupine
DR. WOOBIN = Dr. Rubin
POON = Spoon (as in Big Ole Poon of Peanut Butter)
Jake:
BESSERT = Dessert
INDIBISIBLE = Indivisible
MS. CAFFEY = Ms. Cathy
One more thing that I find so funny. Josh really gets going with his Texas Twang. He almost always elongates the last word of a sentance. He'll say "Where is iiiiii-t", "I want to go th-ay-re", "Thats not f-ay-re", "Look at my wh-eee-el". I think its so cute. Im just not sure where it comes from. Johnny doesnt talk with a twang- and neitehr do I. We think maybe he inherited it from his Grandpa Jerry. If Josh starts calling a gazebo a GABEEZO then I know for sure he is channeling Jerry.
