A Chinese Ball???

Im not sure what its supposed to represent, but Jake made it in school yesterday and I thought it was so cool. He told me it was a "Chinese Ball" and that it was for Chinese New Year. This one is made of play doh with sparkles pushed into it. I googled it and couldn't find any information on a Chinese Ball given out at New Years, but I still like it. My interpretation of this (uneducated as this is) is that Red is the Chinese color for luck and so maybe this is a good luck symbol? Regardless of what it is, I think it's pretty and clever and I love it.

Not sure what a Chinese Ball is either - maybe Junkii can give us some thoughts - but I like the fact that his school is promoting multiculturalism at least. How big is this thing anyway? It's hard to get a sense of scale from your photo.

Its the size of a large gobstopper....

This was the closest I could find in Wikipedia:

The fifteenth day of the new year is celebrated as Yuánxiāo jié (元宵节), otherwise known as Chap Goh Mei in Fujian dialect. Rice dumplingsTangyuan(simplified Chinese: 汤圆; traditional Chinese: 湯圓; pinyin: tāngyuán), a sweet glutinous rice ball brewed in a soup, is eaten this day.

Chinese New Year is in Early Feb this Year (the year of the rat) so these things would be eaten in late Feb.

It doesn't really matter though. It's pretty and he's doe a goood job!

This is gorgeous. I have never heard of a Chinese ball either - apart from those metal ones that you roll around in your hands - they are in pairs though.
